Courtney Wagner is a senior in high school at Canandaigua Academy, in New York. Courtney plays both soccer & basketball and is the epitome of a team player. Her smile is contagious, her personality simply amazing, especially considering doctors believed Courtney likely wouldn't see her senior night. In her freshman year of high school in 2011, Courtney was diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer & was not predicted to make it to her senior year. However with her fight & courage, Courtney has battled these odds & was able to start her basketball senior night & make the team's first basket.
There is something else that is pretty cool about Courtney..... she is a National Champion. Three years ago, Courtney joined the William Smith College Women's Soccer team, through a non-profit organization called Team Impact, which matches kids with life threatening illnesses to collegiate athletic teams. Last year, Courtney traveled with the team to San Antonio, & inspired them to achieve their goals and win a National Championship.
Courtney has changed the lives of her teammates at William Smith & has changed the lives of everyone in the Rochester area. Courtney's dream is to meet Ellen Degeneres. USWNT, ESPN & SportsCenter have all showed their support for Courtney by sharing her story via their networks. In fact, USWNT players Meghan Klingenberg & Abby Wambach are advocates of Courtney & shared their support via social media.
