GAME ONE: USWNT vs Australia

Article content

The USWNT defeated Australia in their first Group D game with a 3-1 victory. Though the beginning was a shaky start.... Australia tested the US's defense way too early and often. But then.... RAPINOE FOR PRESIDENT! With the first goal of the game, Rapinoe literally wove her way in-between the defenders, doing all kinds of crazy moves (We are calling that "The Rapinoe" from now on).

Not long after, Australia had an open shot on net and not even Hope Solo, (who had a fantastic game) could stop the ball. The game was aggressive from start to finish with both teams fighting their hardest. In the second half, Sydney Leroux cut down the end line and served a fantastic cross to Christine Press who nailed it into the right side net. BTW: Congrats Press, that is your first GOAL in your first WORLD CUP GAME #Boss. Lauren Holiday and Ali Krieger also impressed us with the strong presence on the field showing confidence getting the ball where it needed to be and protecting our final third. With the last tally of the game, Rapinoe decided to just go for it and had a stunning breakaway to goal that made us drop the pretzels in our hands to celebrate.

Overall a great first win and start to the tournament. The USWNT has to continue to show the world why they will be winning the World Cup on July 6th!
