USA vs. Japan
An unbelievable result for the USWNT tonight!! Nobody could have predicated the score line of the 2015 WWC Final! The first 15 minutes of the match seemed like a dream… incredible from Carli Lloyd, scoring the fastest ever hat trick in a world cup final! Lloyd continued her offensive presence and her game changing plays in tonight’s match, and she was hands down the difference maker for the USA. Just 3 minutes into the game she found the back of the night for her first goal, then just two minutes later added her second, a dream start for the US.
The Japanese had no answer for the American attack in the first half. They could not find their rhythm in attack and had trouble dealing with runs from the bright Alex Morgan and quickness of Tobin Heath and Meghan Rapinoe. With Lloyd roaming in the center of the midfield she was on the ball a great deal of the time and was able to produce one of her best performances in an American jersey ever. She added her third goal in the 15th minute, her best goal of the three. She beat one defender at the halfway line with a great touch around the Japanese defender. She then had one look at the goalkeeper, seeing her way off of her line and hit an amazing strike that the keeper got a hand too, but was not enough to stop the 60 yard bomb from hitting the net! This type of goal shows a players knowledge of the game, knowing where the goalkeeper is and even having the thought of taking the chance. If anyone had any doubt about Carli Lloyd being one of the most influential players on the United States team, after tonight it is hard not love her for what she has done. A great captain who led tonight be example, shining when it matters most and excelling at the highest level in professional soccer, Lloyd is nothing less then an incredible inspiration to all of us!
Japan was able to get on the scoreboard in the first half, but the first half was controlled and dominated by the United States. In the second half Japan scored first, making the score 4-2. Some sensed a comeback but a goal from Tobin Heath just minutes later put the nail in the coffin for a well-deserved USA win.
Throughout the tournament the USA were known for their rock solid defending, but towards the end of the tournament and especially tonight, their attacking force was the talking point for them. We must congratulate the entire USWNT, but with a special congratulations to Abby Wambach who can now leave her international duties as a world champion, handing over the reigns to the likes of Alex Morgan and Sydney Leroux. What an unreal way to win a World Cup!!
