SoccerGrlProbs 8th Birthday Celebration | Our Favorite Memories

Article content

A stroll down memory lane as SGP turns 8 years old! We can't believe what an amazing 8 years it has been. So we compiled some of our favorite memories and videos over the years enjoy!

How we started (in case you haven't heard this before) While at Fairfield University in between practices during preseason of August 2011, the three of us along with our team were joking around about the struggles of being female soccer players. We decided to create a Twitter handle as a comedic outlet to share their inner thoughts and funny moments about the everyday life of a female athlete. Their team told past teammates, friends, and coaches about the Twitter, and within weeks our following grew to hundreds and then thousands. Twitter followers then began requesting a YouTube video to be created. In February of 2012, we created their first video, Shit Soccer Girls Say I that tallied over ONE MILLION views in 3 days! What initially started as a comedic venting outlet, became a lifestyle brand with the release of their first t-shirt Twitter started, first viral youtube video

Favorite memories:  Running around campus with our iPad filming videos. Our teammates and friends helping us create the videos was so cool. Our friends Matteo and Danaher from the Fairfield Men's Soccer team made their debut and continued to help with our videos for years. Matteo now works at Twitter and Danaher has a Soccer App, Soccer Pulse. Check it out!

Favorite Videos: Shit Soccer Girls Say I, Shit Soccer Girls Say II, and In Coaches Language

Favorite Memory: Putting out our first t-shirt out with the infamous saying "I Can't, I Have Soccer" (from our first video) on our first sketchy GoDaddy website. It ended up SELLING OUT that night! We couldn't believe it!

Favorite Videos: Refs do the Darndest Things, A Soccer Mom Know Best , You Know Your Preseason When

Favorite Memory: Moving into together in a house in Fairfield (aka Penfield Manor) and going full throttle on our start-up. We were accepted into an entrepreneurship program. Losing the key to the garage where we stored all our SGP gear we would climb in and out the window to do shipping.

YEAR 4: AUGUST 2014
Favorite Memories: Traveling to LA for the Nike USWNT World Cup kit launch and Interviewed the USWNT for the first time (PEED ourselves). We traveled to Canada for the WWC 2014 and hosted for Kick Tv, we followed the US team to all of their games, hosted pick up games across Canada, Brandi Chastan became our bff and Mia Hamm showed up to our pick up game.

Favorite Videos:   Reasons Why We Don’t CheerShit Athletes Never SayVictoria's Secret Fashion Show Fight For Equal Grounds I (ASPCA spoof), Fight For Equal Grounds II (Turf Video): Asked our fans to sign petition because the women were going to play on turf for Women’s World Cup, this was our first time asking professionals and soccer “influencers” to help us fight equality and try to get FIFA change the world cup fields. We weren’t successful but it was really cool to see how many people in the community supported us and equality

Favorite Memories: Moving to a private co-working office in NYC and getting to the final round of Shark Tank (we need to apply again! SO close)!

Favorite Memory: We created our first book

Favorite Memories: We went to Costa Rica for a leadership camp. We launch our Nike X SGP collection and had our Lady Baller Ambassadors come to a photoshoot to feature the new shirts!

Favorite Videos: Ask Us How The Game Went, Awkward Soccer Moments

Favorite Memory: We traveled to France for the WWC 2018 and covered the tournament with Adidas. We traveled all over France for the month following the USWNT around! We also launched our first commercial campaign “It’s Up To US” which was filmed by a Fairfield Alum on Fairfield Campus with 12 of our SGP fans/ambassadors. It was a grueling long day but the video was incredible and gives us goosebumps every time we watch. A few other great memories from this year: Abby Wambach interviewed us for an Uber Campaign “Rethink the Ratio”, and we started our own podcast

We have grown and evolved to become more than a funny social media channel or t-shirt company. We have created a community for Lady Ballers to feel comfortable to talk to each other and laugh/cry/smile at all the relatable content we and our fans have created around the beautiful game we love. We promise this year we are going to continue to help educate, inspire and make you laugh! Here's to Year 8!!

Happy 8th Birthday! You inspire me in so many ways, especially the way you have grown your business from the bottom up. Cleat size 5.5

Happy 8th Birthday, it’s really nice and encouraging for an aspiring player like myself to find an all girls run company that has lots of options in clothing and products! And with these 8 years comes knowledge and experience that young players like me are soon going to experience and we get a heads up from all of you. Big thanks to you guys!

Y’all always have a way to make me laugh and the things you guys post are so relatable to me and many other girls. So glad to have such a great soccer girl community. Love y’all and can’t wait to see more successes⚽️ #ladyballers
