“Nobody puts baby in the corner.”

Abby Wambach called it on Twitter. I certainly would not want to be the USWNT’s next opponent, and I’m sure New Zealand didn’t want to be either.
Following a heartbreaking 3-0 loss to Sweden in the opening round of Group G, the US was out for vengeance, with their highest scoring outing and largest margin of victory in an Olympic match.
Emily Sonnett, Catarina Macario, and Casey Krueger made their Olympic debut, while Rose Lavelle scored her first Olympic goal, and Christen Press scored her first two.
Lindsey Horan made her 100th cap for the USWNT, and also put a goal on the leaderboard.
Alex Morgan and two own goals by New Zealand led to the eventual 6-1 victory for the USWNT.
Losing to Sweden in game 1 of the Olympics, not only ended the USWNT’s 44 game unbeaten streak, but also put them in a bind going forward in their next group stage games in Group G. Taking it one game at a time, the US needed to deliver, and they certainly did.
